Our Pedagogy

Our program is designed to nurture a dancer from their very first steps to their debut solo performance, blending discipline with a love for the art.

The Learning Journey

Weekly Commitment: We begin with one class per week. As students build stamina and comfort with the routine, session durations are gradually extended by 30 minutes to accommodate more advanced training.

Personalized Progress: We honor the fact that every child’s learning curve is unique. Mastery is a partnership between classroom instruction and consistent home practice.

A Systematic Approach: Every movement (Adavu) is taught through a comprehensive five-stage process: vocalizing the rhythm, footwork, hand gestures, coordination of the torso and eyes, and finally, execution in three speeds.

Grade Exams & Performance Milestones

We follow a structured progression aligned with the Annamalai University certification path:

  • Foundational Years (Grades 1-2): Focused on mastering the 54 core Adavus and basic theory.
  • Intermediate Years (Grades 3-4): Transitioning into written theory and culminating in the Salangai Pooja—a significant milestone marking the student’s readiness for the stage.
  • Advanced Studies (Grades 5-7): Deepening technical and theoretical knowledge through intensive practical and written assessments.
  • Arangetram Preparations: A minimum of one year of dedicated preparation following Grade 5. We provide a detailed roadmap and full orchestral support, including professional Nattuvangam artists, to ensure a high-quality debut.

Individual & Group Training

Solo Development: Leading up to the Salangai Pooja, individual sessions are added to group classes. This allows the dancer to transition from group choreography to owning the stage space solo.

Performance Opportunities: To build confidence and stage presence, students participate in two scheduled performances per school year.

Student Responsibilities & Etiquette

Home Practice: To ensure steady progress and the ability to receive new lessons, students are expected to log 30 minutes of practice, three times a week, covering exercises, Adavus, and songs.

Classroom Readiness: Students should arrive prepared with their notebook and pen.

Dress Code: Authentic learning requires the right mindset. Students must wear a tunic top with a neatly tied dupatta, hair tied back, and a bindi.

Attendance & Scheduling: To maintain the integrity of our schedule, 24-hour notice is required for rescheduling individual lessons. Group make-up sessions are available with other ongoing classes.
